Lohahna J. Rzepczynski, 79, of South Haven, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2025 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. Lohahna was born February 3, 1946, in Chicago, the daughter of William and Shirley (Russell) Alderson. Growing up in Chicago, Lohahna became an expert swimmer, and was named Illinois State Champion in the butterfly stroke at age 12. She graduated from Western Michigan University in 1967 with her bachelor’s degree. Later that year on August 19, 1967 in south Chicago, she was united in marriage to Leonard Rzepczynski. The two met in their younger years while spending summers at Gravel Lake in Lawton. Len’s military service would take them to Virginia, then when he was sent overseas, she resided in New Buffalo, moving to Kalamazoo once Len was discharged. Lohahna was a dedicated wife and mother to Len and her two sons, Brian and Kris. She volunteered for the Comstock School District, she belonged to the Kalamazoo Y-Kats Swimming Team, was an accomplished piano player and enjoyed counted cross stitch.
Lohahna is survived by her husband of 57 years, Leonard, of South Haven; two sons, Brian (Loren Harris) Rzepczynski of Naperville, IL and Kris (Melissa) Rzepczynski of Coldwater; two granddaughters, Emma and Isabel Rzepczynski; and a sister, Jan Porter. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Dawn Mendias and her brother, William Alderson, III.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A gathering to celebrate her life will be held later this summer. For those wishing to make a memorial contribution in her memory, the family suggests the American Diabetes Association.
