Elias Bermudo Miado age 73 of Kalamazoo
Entered into Eternal rest on March 27, 2025. Elias was born in Maasin Iloilo, Philippines the son of Alfonso and Luz (Bermudo) Miado. Elias was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church as well as the PAASM (Philippine-American Association of Southwest Michigan). He graduated from St. Augustine University in Ilo Ilo, Philippines earning his degree in accounting and becoming a Certified Public Accountant. He worked as an accountant for Best Way Disposal, retiring in 2020. Elias volunteered at the community vegetable garden as well as volunteering his accounting expertise for St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Elias was known as Uncle Ely to the Filipino community as he was always willing to assist with anyone in need. He became the driver for many of their Shipshewana adventures. He enjoyed gardening and growing food and giving it away to those in need. Elias was an expert in grilling and loved to cook and share good food, especially steaks on the grill. He was an avid fisherman, loved to read Western books and watch Michigan sports on TV. He was a sharp dresser, a kind man and the oldest brother. He was a proud owner of an Audi and took pride in keeping it clean. He was a generous man who was a good husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers; Leo Miado, Zenon Miado, Mario Angel Miado and Edgar Andres Miado.
He shared 43 loving years with his wife Carmelie (Nicolasora) Miado whom he married on December 23, 1982 who survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Kateleen Anne Miado and her husband, Sibie Daniel, two granddaughters, Keely Daniel and Saoirse Daniel; four brothers, Efren Miado, Jesse Miado, Ramon Miado and Niel Miado; two sisters, Judith Fresnido and Lourdes Miado, several nieces and nephews as well as numerous friends in the Filipino community. Family and friends will be received on Sunday, April 6, 2025 from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the Adams-Redmond Parchment Funeral Home, 2300 East G. Avenue, where a Rosary will be recited at 5:00 PM.
An hour of visitation will take place on Monday, April 7, 2025 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Parchment where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 with the Very Rev. Albert Kemboi Tuitoek, VF and Monsignor Michael Hazard as co-celebrants. A luncheon will be held at the St. Ambrose Parish Activity Center immediately following the Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to a scholarship fund designated by the family or to St. James Catholic Church, Maasin Iloilo, Philippines.
